Interview with Camie
What has been inspiring you lately?
In the past year, I have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of phenomenal records being created and released by female (especially queer female) and non-binary musicians. Some of my favourites are: Caroline Polachek’s Desire, I Want to Turn Into You; Allison Russell’s The Returner, Hurray For the Riff Raff’s The Past is Still Alive, Brittany Howard’s What Now, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter… the list goes on. I have been playing each of these albums non-stop. Back to front. Each of these artists has a singular, coherent vision that is unapologetically them—they’re so sonically, poetically, and conceptually rich. They’re what’s been inspiring me, hands down.
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
Yes! I just released my sophomore record, entitled POEMS IN THE ASHES, which has been described as a “horror-fantasy” pop-rock record that celebrates the strange and surreal motions of queer womanhood. It blends high fantasy with moments of personal epiphany, transformation, and revelation, with each song taking a queer-feminist spin on a different psycho-sexy horror trope. It’s available on all streaming services–POEMS IN THE ASHES by Camie! Check it out!
Do you have anything else that you would like to talk about or promote?
For sure! I’m actually so excited to announce that I’ll be playing at Pride Toronto this year. My band and I will be doing a set for Bi+ Pride and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s a truly exceptional roster. Also, in the coming months, I’ll be releasing some live acoustic covers of my favourite POEMS IN THE ASHES songs. If you want to check all that out, stay up to date with me on social media @thecamiliad and all the details will be coming your way!
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
I can be found at thecamiliad on all socials, at /camieofficial on YouTube, or via my website at https://www.camilleintson.com/. Thanks so much, Volatile!
